Welcome

At Enkare Nanyoikie, paradise awaits.

Our name is everything. Enkare Nanyoikie — drawn from the Maa language of the Maasai — speaks directly to this place and who we are. This authenticity is replicated in every aspect of the guest experience: from our deep integration with the local community to our off-grid, eco-friendly design built to blend with nature rather than dominate it.

We sit on a vast spread of sprawling savannah grassland and indigenous forest along the hospitality corridor of Enkare Nanyoikie, Mukima — with breathtaking views of the Laikipia Plateau and sweeping sightlines to Mount Kenya, the Aberdares, and the Lolldaiga Hills. The Laikipia Plateau is Kenya's most important conservation landscape outside the Masai Mara: home to more endangered species than anywhere else in Africa, over 70% of the world's remaining Grevy's zebra, and elephant herds that follow ancient migration corridors between Mount Kenya and Lewa — corridors that pass through our land.

At 1,905m altitude, the air here is thin enough to matter and clear enough to see everything. The Laikipia Plateau sits majestically above the equator at an average of 6,500 feet — and at its highest edge, that is exactly where we are. Among the top ten highest resort addresses in Kenya. Ideal for endurance running, deep rest, or simply breathing differently during your stay with us.

Every stay is a unforgetable bespoke experience includes breakfast, Wi-Fi throughout the grounds, access to the signature pool, and sunset views from the reception terrace.

Stays

Two reasons to stay longer than planned.

Each space at Enkare Nanyoikie was designed around a single feeling, not a feature list.

The Cottages
Stone-and-thatch suites set within the savannah grassland and indigenous forest — private fireplaces for cold wilderness nights, uninterrupted sightlines to Mount Kenya at 5,199m, and the kind of silence that only 1,905m altitude provides.
Luxury cottage suite
Nanyoikie Spa
A spa drawing on local botanicals and highland spring water, with treatment rooms open to the forest air — slow rituals, not quick services.

Experiences

On the property and beyond the gate.

Enkare Nanyoikie sits at the heart of one of Kenya's most ecologically significant landscapes — a plateau home to more endangered species than anywhere else in Africa. Some of the best experiences begin the moment you step outside your room.

Altitude Running & Endurance Training At 1,905m on the open Laikipia savannah, Enkare Nanyoikie sits at the same altitude band that has made Kenya the home of the world's greatest distance runners. The plateau's cool temperatures, thin air, and wide-open terrain create a natural training environment unmatched in East Africa — ideal for serious athletes and casual joggers alike. Our grounds and forest trails are yours from dawn.
Elephant Encounters The property lies within an active elephant migration corridor — the same ancient route connecting Mount Kenya to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy that herds have followed for centuries. Encounters on-property are a regular occurrence. More than 2,000 elephants move through the greater Laikipia-Mount Kenya ecosystem, and at Enkare Nanyoikie, you can comfortably observe them right from the comfort of your room.
Fishing & Bird Watching The Laikipia Plateau supports over 500 recorded bird species, making it one of the richest avian habitats in Kenya. The rivers and highland wetlands around the resort offer exceptional freshwater fishing and birding at every elevation. Our team can guide you to the best spots along the nearby rivers at any time of day.
Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve A UNESCO World Heritage-listed indigenous forest at the foothills of Mount Kenya, just 42km from Nanyuki. It is home to East Africa's longest canopy walkway — a 450-metre suspended bridge rising 10 metres above ancient red cedar and African olive trees, some over 200 years old. Featuring azure waterfall pools, colobus monkeys, leopards, and over 200 recorded bird species, it remains one of Kenya's true hidden gems.
Laikipia Wilderness Camp Tucked away in the Laikipia North region overlooking the Ewaso Narok River, this intimate, family-run bush camp offers a truly wild safari experience. It is renowned for its immersive walking safaris, rock climbing, river tubing, and fly-camping under the stars. The area is also famous for hosting Africa’s fastest-growing population of wild dogs and provides a rare opportunity to track elusive black leopards alongside expert guides.
Laikipia Conservancies Laikipia is Africa's most important private conservation landscape — home to more endangered species than anywhere else on the continent. Over 70% of the world's remaining Grevy's zebra, more than half of Kenya's black rhino, reticulated giraffes, wild dogs, and the Big Five are all within reach. Ol Pejeta, Lewa, Solio, and the Lolldaiga Hills are all accessible by road from the resort.
Sunset from the Reception Terrace Each evening, the Laikipia Plateau stretches west in gold — offering sweeping views toward the Aberdares, the Lolldaiga Hills, and the horizon of the Northern Frontier. The reception terrace is built for this exact moment. No excursion required. No transport to arrange. The sky does all the work.

We watched elephants cross the valley from our cottage deck at sunrise — a completely different pace of travel than anywhere else we stayed in Kenya.

A quiet, off-grid escape with genuinely warm hospitality. Would love to see more spa treatment slots available in peak season.
